The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to stricter monitoring of capital market operators to ensure compliance with regulations and boost investor confidence. Speaking at an event in Abuja, SEC Director-General Dr. Emomotimi Agama emphasized the Commission’s zero-tolerance policy for infractions and announced plans for risk-based supervision. He also highlighted the pending legislation that will enhance SEC enforcement powers to create a more transparent and accountable market.

In addition to regulatory oversight, Agama stressed the importance of financial education in 2025, aiming to inform citizens about investment opportunities while maintaining strict adherence to market rules. Reflecting on 2024’s successes, he noted the market’s ability to raise N2.2tn for bank recapitalization and N3tn through collective investment schemes. He assured stakeholders that government borrowing would not hinder private sector growth, urging businesses to leverage the capital market for funding.

Norrenberger Asset Management Limited, a key player in the industry, announced its expansion plans to reach underserved regions and enhance financial inclusion. The firm’s leadership highlighted new initiatives, including Islamic finance and investments in commodities, infrastructure, and digital assets, aligning with SEC’s evolving guidelines. Norrenberger aims to democratize investment access, supporting Nigeria’s broader economic growth ambitions.
