Indonesia Set to Lift iPhone 16 Ban After Deal with Apple
Indonesia is reportedly close to reaching a deal with Apple to lift the ban on iPhone 16 sales in the country, according to investment minister Rosan Roeslani. The agreement revolves around an investment plan that could meet local production requirements, potentially resolving the issue within the next one to two weeks. Apple has yet to comment on the situation, and the Indonesian government has not provided additional details.
The ban was imposed last year after Apple failed to meet the Indonesian regulation, which mandates that smartphones sold in the country contain at least 40% locally-produced parts. Apple does not have manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, although it has invested in application developer academies in the country since 2018. This move has allowed Apple to maintain a presence while seeking to meet local production standards.
The potential deal comes as Apple works on complying with local laws, which could open the market to iPhone 16 sales in the near future. Indonesia’s large population of approximately 280 million people represents a significant market for Apple, making the resolution of this issue crucial for the company’s business strategy in the region.
