The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) announced the recovery of N29.7 billion and $966,900 in foreign currency within the past year, with the funds deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria. During a press briefing marking his first year in office, ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu highlighted the commission’s efforts, including recovering N10 billion in COVID-19 vaccine funds and preventing the diversion of N5.882 billion in public funds. Aliyu emphasized the ICPC’s role in promoting accountability and delivering tangible benefits to Nigerians.
In addition to financial recoveries, the ICPC assessed 323 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) using its Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS). It also established 80 anti-corruption and transparency units across MDAs to strengthen institutional integrity. The commission remitted N10.986 billion in VAT to the Federal Inland Revenue Service and processed 851 petitions, leading to 72 court cases and 16 convictions.
Aliyu reiterated the commission’s commitment to fighting corruption, safeguarding public funds, and enhancing transparency in government institutions. The ICPC’s achievements, he said, align with its strategic action plan and the National Anti-Corruption Strategic Plan 2022–2026, underscoring its dedication to institutional accountability.
