The World Bank plans to approve three major loans for Nigeria in 2025, totaling $1.65 billion, aimed at addressing the country’s pressing developmental challenges. These loans will focus on improving conditions for internally displaced persons, enhancing education, and addressing nutrition needs. The largest of the proposed loans, $800 million, will be allocated to the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria 2.0 project, with the decision meeting scheduled for February 2025.

In addition, the World Bank will consider a $553.8 million loan for the HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All project, set for approval in March 2025. Another loan of $300 million is earmarked for the Solutions for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project, which aims to provide sustainable solutions for displaced persons and their host communities. These initiatives are part of the World Bank’s broader effort to support Nigeria’s social and economic recovery.

The loans are part of a larger pattern of financial support to Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. In the past 18 months, Nigeria has secured $6.95 billion in loans from the World Bank, with a recent $500 million loan approved in December 2024 for rural access and agricultural marketing. The funding reflects the World Bank’s commitment to Nigeria’s development, contingent on meeting project prerequisites and demonstrating accountability in implementation.
