The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) convened stakeholders at the Manufacturers Energy Security Summit in Lagos to address Nigeria’s critical energy challenges. MAN President Francis Meshioye highlighted the role of sustainable energy supply in driving industrial growth and boosting the country’s GDP. He emphasized the importance of deploying innovative technologies, enacting supportive policies, and encouraging investment in renewable energy to reduce costs and promote sustainable manufacturing practices.
Speakers, including MAN Director General Segun Ajayi-Kadir and NERC Chairman Sanusi Garba, underscored the urgency of addressing infrastructural gaps and funding constraints that hinder manufacturing competitiveness. They called for long-term investments supported by the Electricity Act 2023, which lays a foundation for sector reforms. The summit explored diversification into renewable energy sources like wind and solar to reduce reliance on gas and ensure a more stable energy supply.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu assured stakeholders of ongoing reforms to strengthen the power sector. He detailed initiatives such as enhancing generation and transmission capacity, encouraging off-grid solutions, and fostering public-private partnerships. These measures aim to improve energy access for industrial clusters and bolster Nigeria’s manufacturing and economic growth.
