The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has pledged government support for indigenous technology companies to help them scale through collaboration. During a visit to the Imose Technologies smartphone and tablet assembly factory in Lagos, Tijani highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses to ensure Nigeria’s digital economy objectives are met. He emphasized that local companies are essential for providing the devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops necessary for citizens to fully benefit from the government’s investments in fiber optic networks.
Tijani discussed various ways the government could collaborate with local manufacturers to strengthen the country’s technology ecosystem. He pointed out that the government must play a proactive role in regulating and supporting the full supply chain for indigenous companies, ensuring they can develop and produce affordable, locally manufactured devices. He commended Imose Technologies for its efforts in assembling and manufacturing mobile devices and reiterated the government’s commitment to helping companies like Imose reduce production costs and increase accessibility for Nigerians.
Imose Technologies’ Chairman, Osayi Izedonmwen, expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and highlighted the role of smartphone batteries in lowering production costs. He also outlined the company’s vision for leveraging Nigeria’s abundant lithium resources to locally produce smartphone batteries, potentially leading to large-scale export opportunities in the future. This ambition aligns with broader efforts to boost local manufacturing and create sustainable, value-added industries in Nigeria.
