ACCESS Bank UK has officially launched its new branch in Hong Kong, marking a significant milestone as the first West African bank to establish a presence in the region. The branch will focus on international trade finance and commercial banking, aimed at strengthening trade flows between Asia and Africa. This expansion reflects the bank’s strategy to tap into the growing economic ties between the two regions.

Hong Kong’s status as a global financial hub offers ACCESS Bank UK a prime opportunity to engage with clients in the Asia-Pacific region. The move aligns with initiatives like China’s Belt and Road, which facilitates trade between China and Africa. With China-Africa trade reaching a record USD 282.1 billion in 2023, the new branch is well-positioned to capitalize on the expanding trade volume.

The Hong Kong branch will start with 25 employees, with plans for growth. Ernest Law, the Managing Director & CEO of the branch, is leading the operation and aims to provide customized financial services to clients. The opening was celebrated by dignitaries, including Ambassador Oludare Folowosele, who highlighted the importance of the new branch in strengthening Africa-Asia trade ties.
