The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been honored with the prestigious Golden World Award (GWA) for Crisis Communication, presented by the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) during a ceremony on October 18, 2024, at the Metropol Palace Hotel in Belgrade, Serbia. This accolade recognizes NCS’s exemplary public relations efforts, particularly through their “100 Days of Impactful PR at Customs Service” campaign, which was highlighted for its effective crisis management.
Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi accepted the award on behalf of the NCS, emphasizing the campaign’s significant impact during his initial 100 days in office. The campaign effectively addressed operational challenges, facilitated enhanced stakeholder collaboration, improved border security, and boosted revenue generation. Philip Sheppard, IPRA Secretary-General, commended Adeniyi’s leadership, noting that the campaign not only met its goals but also fostered a renewed sense of hope within the organization.
Looking ahead, the NCS has designated 2024 as the “Year of Stakeholders,” reaffirming its commitment to open communication and collaboration with its partners. Comptroller-General Adeniyi stressed the importance of engaging with both traditional and new stakeholders to ensure their concerns are heard and addressed, reflecting the NCS’s dedication to aligning its operations with international standards and promoting national security and economic development through strategic public relations.
