The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recorded significant growth in revenue with ₦277.5 billion in import duties and ₦15.8 billion in excise duties as of August 2024.
Comptroller Olumo attributed the success to efforts in blocking revenue leakages, ensuring compliance, and implementing an internal motivation system.
He commended the resilience and hard work of the customs officers, emphasizing that the focus on revenue collection will continue.
Olumo also credited the leadership of Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi, whose support and guidance played a key role in the revenue increase.
He noted that strategic measures such as closing loopholes and enhancing internal operations contributed to the strong financial performance.
The NCS also ramped up anti-smuggling operations, particularly in border regions, seizing 1,014 parcels of cannabis sativa, 23 vehicles, and contraband items worth ₦975 million.
Through “Operation Whirlwind,” the NCS intercepted seven trucks carrying 466,000 litres of PMS, as well as other smuggled goods valued at ₦8.1 billion.
