The Ogun State Government has announced the establishment of a $5 million battery recycling plant by a British company, marking the first of its kind in Africa.
Governor Dapo Abiodun revealed the news after a meeting with British High Commissioner Richard Montgomery in Abeokuta.
The plant will recycle e-waste, convert battery cells into chemical form, and export minerals for new battery production, positioning Ogun as a leader in battery recycling.
Governor Abiodun further shared that the UK is interested in expanding investments in sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, and education in Ogun State.
The British International Investment has already supported cashew processing in the state, and discussions are ongoing to enhance these partnerships, including technical support for the state’s mass transit system.
Ogun State, known for its economic vibrancy and industrial hubs, continues to attract significant investments.
With one of the highest internally generated revenues, the state is committed to boosting infrastructure and development, reflected in its N703 billion 2024 fiscal budget that prioritizes capital expenditure and growth initiatives.
