Chairman of the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN), Huub Stokman, has emphasized the need for collaboration among oil and gas stakeholders to deliver quality services and affordable prices.
Speaking at a virtual MEMAN seminar, Stokman highlighted key challenges in Nigeria’s energy sector, including infrastructure issues, regulatory fragmentation, and high operating costs.
He advocated for investment in technology and automation to streamline operations and improve energy distribution.
Gabriel Ogbechie, CEO of Rainoil Ltd., discussed the impact of rising fuel prices, with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) now at N1,230 per litre, and the potential effects of the Dangote Refinery on market dynamics.
He also called for investments in Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure to support Nigeria’s transition to alternative energy sources.
Meanwhile, the President of the Petroleum Retail Outlet of Nigeria, Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry, advocated for full deregulation to improve efficiency and product availability.
Executive Secretary of the African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA), Anibor Kragha, stressed the importance of addressing infrastructure challenges in Africa’s energy sector.
He referenced the 2024 Puma/CITAC White Paper, which identified shallow drafts, congested berths, and reliance on road transport as key factors contributing to higher prices and product shortages across the continent.
