Osubi Airport in Warri has seen significant growth in passenger traffic and revenue in the first half of 2024, generating N831 million between January and June.
The airport processed 124,000 passengers and recorded 2,051 aircraft movements during this period, according to the airport’s manager, Mr. Winston Egwuatu, who presented these statistics at the 2024 Aviation Business Summit and Expo in Lagos.
Originally not built for commercial purposes, Osubi Airport has evolved into a successful Public-Private Partnership (PPP) venture.
Egwuatu emphasized the need for further infrastructural improvements, such as a terminal extension that will include a VIP lounge, retail shops, and a restaurant.
To ensure smooth operations, the airport has installed a 250kva static UPS inverter for power backup, a fuel dump for emergencies, solar-powered street lights for night operations, and a police station to enhance security.
In terms of investment opportunities, Egwuatu mentioned that 10,764,900 square meters of land is available for further development and airline operations.
The airport continues to attract more airlines, with Air Peace and Arik Air operating daily flights. Other airlines, such as Green Africa, Overland, and United Nigeria, are expected to resume operations soon.
Upgrades, including runway and apron expansions, are also in progress, while a positive relationship with the host community has contributed to the airport’s ongoing success.
