The House of Representatives has pledged to address the challenges preventing Nigerian tertiary institutions from accessing over N500 billion in Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) allocations.
The commitment was made during a recent visit by the House Committee on TETFund and Other Services to Kaduna State, where it was revealed that significant funds remain unutilised at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Hon. Mariam Odinaka Onuoha, Chairman of the Committee, disclosed that over N1.3 billion in TETFund resources allocated to three state-owned institutions in Kaduna alone remain untouched.
She emphasized the Committee’s responsibility to oversee the effective use of these funds, which are intended to bridge infrastructure gaps and enhance education in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The Committee is determined to resolve the issues hindering access to these funds, aiming to ensure that the allocations fulfill their intended purpose.
Kaduna’s deputy governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, expressed appreciation for the Committee’s efforts and urged institutional leaders to communicate their challenges openly.
