The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Kingdom of Belgium have agreed to strengthen their bilateral relationship to boost efficiency at Nigeria’s seaports and enhance international trade between the two countries.

NPA Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, shared this during a meeting with Belgian Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt. He mentioned that Nigeria, supported by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, aims to increase its share in West and Central African trade.

Nigeria currently accounts for over six million tonnes of West African freight from the port of Antwerp, Belgium, which holds a significant market share in the region.

The NPA plans to leverage the technical expertise of the Port of Antwerp to advance the National Single Window (NSW) project, which aims to streamline port operations.

The Belgian Ambassador emphasized Belgium’s expertise in developing deep sea ports, waterways, and hinterland connectivity.

He expressed a commitment to facilitating projects that will benefit both Belgium and Nigeria, focusing on improving port efficiency and trade.
