Ireland has donated €200,000 to the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) to enhance global food safety and agricultural trade.
This contribution aims to improve access to global and regional markets for developing economies and least-developed countries (LDCs) by advancing STDF projects.
WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed gratitude to Ireland, noting that the donation will help small-scale farmers in developing countries overcome barriers to global food markets, particularly in meeting sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
This support aligns with Ireland’s long-standing commitment to the STDF, bringing its total contributions to over €2.9 million since 2007.
The STDF is a global partnership involving the FAO, WHO, World Bank, WOAH, and WTO, focused on facilitating safe and inclusive trade.
It supports sustainable economic growth, food security, and poverty reduction, particularly in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). So far, the STDF has funded over 250 projects benefiting developing economies and LDCs.
