TikTok is strengthening its safety initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa by launching its first Safety Advisory Council and expanding the #SaferTogether community education campaign.

Announced at TikTok’s Safety Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, the council will collaborate with local experts, including academics and community leaders, to develop policies and address regional safety issues on the platform.

Since 2020, TikTok has established regional Safety Advisory Councils worldwide, with this new council focusing on the unique challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Members include experts from South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Senegal, who will work with TikTok to ensure a secure environment for users.

The #SaferTogether campaign will engage the community through workshops, social media outreach, and partnerships, emphasizing the importance of following TikTok’s community guidelines.

In Kenya, the campaign has already reached over 64,000 students, 467 parents, and 346 teachers, promoting best practices on online platforms.

TikTok’s Community Guidelines, developed with input from various stakeholders, set the standard for acceptable behavior and content, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all users.

The guidelines are regularly updated to address emerging safety concerns, supporting a respectful online community.
