Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing the Jauri Inland Dry Port in Maiduguri.

During a visit to the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) in Lagos, Zulum highlighted the project’s role in providing shipping services to the hinterlands, reducing cargo costs, and enhancing transborder trade.

He emphasized that the development will contribute significantly to job creation and security in the region.

The Executive Secretary of the NSC, Barrister Pius Akutah, noted that the Jauri Inland Dry Port has only seen 5% progress, which is insufficient for business needs.

However, the state’s commitment to the project is seen as a positive step forward. Akutah referenced the success of similar projects, like the Dala Inland Dry Port, to illustrate the potential benefits of the Jauri project, including decongesting seaports and increasing government revenue.

The Jauri Inland Dry Port, which is strategically located near three international borders, is crucial for Nigeria’s role in the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA).

The facility, managed by Migfo Nigeria Limited, has the capacity to handle 10,000 TEUs, though development has been slow.
