A recent audit conducted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has found its air quality monitoring stations in a dire state.
The audit, commissioned by NiMet’s DG/CEO Prof. Charles Anosike, evaluated stations in Sokoto, Kano, Maiduguri, Yola, Enugu, Lagos, and Abuja.
Except for Sokoto and Yola, the remaining stations are severely degraded, hampering their ability to effectively monitor air quality.
Issues include incomplete installations, outdated equipment, and lack of maintenance.
Prof. Anosike emphasized the audit’s importance in addressing these challenges and improving the agency’s operational effectiveness in line with aviation safety regulations.
