The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted reports of a grid collapse on Monday. Instead, it described the incident as arcing on the Benin-Egbin 330kV isolator, which led to power loss in some areas.
According to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the issue began around 2:47pm with arcing at the Benin-Egbin 330kV line isolator. This caused a trip at the Egbin Generating Station and affected power supply to several areas.
To prevent a larger impact, the Osogbo-Ihovbor 330kV line was temporarily shut down. The disruption affected parts of Lagos, South West, North Central, and Abuja. By 6:10pm, power supply was fully restored.
