The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed telecom operators to extend the NIN-SIM verification deadline beyond July 31, 2024.
This directive follows a previous order for telecom operators to reactivate lines that were barred due to verification issues.
Many subscribers had their phone lines blocked because they couldn’t link their National Identification Numbers (NINs) with their Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs).
This linkage, mandated since December 2020, aimed to ensure all SIMs are registered and linked to NINs.
An anonymous NCC official confirmed the extension, citing the current situation in the country as a reason.
The new deadline is yet to be announced, and telecom operators have been told not to bar any lines until further notice.
Attempts to reach NCC spokesman Reuben Mouka were unsuccessful.
