A coalition of 28 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) announced plans to set up a situation room to monitor the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (NNPCL) compliance with the presidential directive to sell crude oil to Dangote Refinery in Naira.

The decision was made during a facility tour of the Dangote Refinery, where CSO leaders criticized NNPCL and regulatory agencies for allegedly favoring fuel importers over local refinery operations.

Speaking for the CSOs, Solomon Adodo of Rise Up for A United Nigeria emphasized the importance of the Dangote Refinery in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products and combating high fuel prices.

He urged the government to adopt the refinery as a national asset and ensure its smooth operation.

The CSOs plan to petition the Presidency and advocate for the refinery’s support, stressing that its success is crucial for the country’s economic stability.

Dangote Industries’ Vice-President, Devakumar Edwin, highlighted the refinery’s potential to transform Nigeria’s oil sector, urging continued investment in local production.
