Reports allege that diesel produced by the $20bn Dangote Petroleum Refinery contains high levels of sulphur.
Despite these claims, no consumers have registered complaints.
Oil marketers defend the product, while Dangote Group officials attribute the allegations to sabotage.
They argue that Dangote diesel complies with international standards and accuse the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of importing substandard fuel.
NMDPRA, however, claims Dangote diesel has higher sulphur content than imported variants and is still in pre-commissioning stages.
The refinery, supported by President Bola Tinubu’s directive for crude sales in Naira, faces scrutiny and advocacy efforts from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
These CSOs plan to monitor compliance with the presidential directive and defend the refinery against what they see as undermining efforts.
