President Bola Tinubu has approved a N50,000 monthly stipend for 10,000 youths in the Niger Delta to ease economic hardships.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced this at a conference in Port Harcourt, explaining that the payments will be made through the NDDC Youth Intensive Scheme for an initial 12 months, with a chance for extension.
Akpabio also revealed that Tinubu has approved the start of the Lagos to Calabar coastal highway project, which is expected to create thousands of jobs in the region.
He urged against participating in the planned national protest, describing it as a chaotic move organized by anonymous groups.
The Senate President reassured that the government is addressing the region’s economic issues and urged patience.
He emphasized that the government’s efforts are ongoing and called for support for Tinubu’s policies.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu also urged calm and support for the administration’s development plans, while NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku highlighted the positive changes under Tinubu’s leadership.
