The Lagos State Government has formalized a partnership with the U.S.-based Project Management Institute (PMI) to enhance project management practices across its 45 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu oversaw the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the State House in Marina on Tuesday.
This collaboration aims to optimize resource use and streamline the management of 1,830 ongoing capital projects in Lagos.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve efficiency, mitigate risks, and enhance residents’ quality of life through better project execution.
Governor Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of this partnership, given the global economic disruptions and high material costs impacting project implementation.
“We are at a critical time when leaders are finding it challenging to implement and activate projects that will improve the quality of life for their citizens. This partnership with PMI will validate our strategies, help us allocate resources effectively, and ensure timely delivery of outcomes,” he stated.
The MoU was signed by the Project Implementation and Monitoring Unit (PIMU) of the Lagos State Government and PMI, led by Mr. George Asamani, Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Asamani highlighted that the agreement would provide advanced skills, knowledge sharing, and training to improve project delivery with quality assurance.
Mr. Olusegun Sanwo-Olu, Executive Assistant to the Governor on PIMU, noted that PMI’s extensive expertise would enhance project management practices, ensuring projects are completed within budget, scope, and timeframe.
Additional Developments
In line with its ongoing infrastructure projects, the Lagos State Government has announced plans to construct 31 bus shelters along the Igando to Iyana-Iba corridor as part of the Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) Project Package 3.
This project will also include a new bus terminal and depot at Iyana-Iba, an upgrade to the Igando bus terminal, and two interchange hubs at Mile 2 and Marina to improve transportation connectivity.
These projects aim to enhance public transportation infrastructure and provide a better commuting experience for Lagos residents.
