The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM) has issued a warning that it will renew agitation for greater autonomy and control of natural resources if the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and International Oil Companies (IOCs) fail to supply crude oil to Dangote Refinery and other local refineries.

HOSTCOM’s demand comes amidst frustration over Nigeria’s continued reliance on imported refined petroleum products, despite significant investments in local refineries.

During a recent visit to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, HOSTCOM’s National President, Dr. Benjamin Tamaramiebi, criticized the corruption within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

He claimed influential cabals are maintaining the status quo of exporting crude oil while importing refined products. HOSTCOM urged the Federal Government to support local refineries to end the reliance on imports.

The group also criticized the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, calling for his removal due to his alleged conflicts of interest.

HOSTCOM praised Aliko Dangote for his investment in the refinery and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support the project, emphasizing its potential to create jobs and enhance the economy.
