Dangote Fights Back… NMDPRA Letter Shows Regulator Approved Refinery’s In-house Laboratory for Products’ Testing
Dangote Refinery is defending the quality of its refined products following allegations by the Nigerian Upstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) that they are inferior to imported ones.
A letter dated March 28, 2024, confirms that NMDPRA approved the refinery’s in-house laboratory for testing crude oil products after it met accreditation requirements.
The controversy arose after Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, asserted that the refinery’s products meet international standards and are superior to imported ones.
He cited tests showing Dangote’s diesel with lower sulphur content compared to samples from other stations, challenging NMDPRA’s claims that local products are of lower quality.
NMDPRA’s letter specified that the accreditation for Dangote’s laboratory covers analyses of various petroleum products and includes requirements for ongoing inspections and reports.
The refinery must also submit activity reports and notify the authority of any changes in personnel or test methods.
