Emomotimi Agama, the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), emphasized the importance of investor education during a meeting with the Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST) in Abuja.
Agama highlighted that the capital market relies on knowledge and informed decision-making. He stressed that SEC is committed to provide information to the investing public.
Agama also expressed the SEC’s dedication to collaboration with stakeholders to enhance learning opportunities through training and sensitization programs.
He noted that the tribunal’s decisions play a crucial role in bolstering market confidence and supporting its overall growth.
IST Chairman, Amos Azi, echoed Agama’s sentiments about the tribunal’s pivotal role in dispute resolution within the Nigerian capital market. Azi highlighted the tribunal’s significant impact, citing over 480 cases adjudicated with a total value exceeding N868 billion since its establishment under Section 274 of the Investment and Securities Act 2007.
He also noted that the tribunal’s existence contributed to Nigeria’s recognition by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) as an ‘Appendix A’ signatory.
