Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria have approved another tariff hike for Band A consumers due to soaring operational costs.
This marks the second increase this year, further challenging businesses and industries reliant on consistent power supply.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has sanctioned the new tariff, raising the rate from N206.80/kWh to N209.50/kWh for Band A users.
Francis Agoha, acting managing director of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, stated that this adjustment addresses fluctuations in exchange rates, inflation, generation capacity, and gas costs, which have all driven up operational expenses.
Kaduna Electric’s head of corporate communications, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, also announced the increase, emphasizing that tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.
This change follows a previous significant hike from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh, demonstrating the ongoing financial pressures within the industry.
DisCos assure customers that the adjustment aims to sustain and enhance service quality despite the higher costs.
