Nippon Steel’s Vice Chairman, Takahiro Mori, will travel to the United States next week to discuss the proposed $15 billion acquisition of U.S. Steel, the company announced on Wednesday.
This visit follows Mori’s previous trips to the U.S. in May and June.
Although U.S. Steel’s management supports the acquisition, the deal faces opposition from the White House and the United Steelworkers (USW) union. Nippon Steel has not disclosed specific details about Mori’s upcoming visit, but a source revealed he plans to visit several states where U.S.
Steel operates, meeting with local officials, community leaders, and workers.
During his last visit, Mori engaged with U.S. Steel employees and community leaders to understand their perspectives, reporting a positive reception to the proposed acquisition, according to the company.
