During the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu announced significant initiatives aimed at enhancing food security and infrastructure development across Nigeria. The federal government plans to allocate N50,000 uplift grants to 100,000 households per state for three months, totaling N10 billion in financial support. Additionally, a substantial N155 billion has been earmarked for the procurement and distribution of assorted food items nationwide.

President Tinubu urged state Governors to collaborate closely in meeting their states’ food security needs, emphasizing the urgency of agricultural reforms and efficient resource utilization. The initiatives include mechanization of agricultural processes, provision of high-quality seedlings, and deployment of solar-powered irrigation facilities to support farmers throughout the year.

Moreover, Tinubu approved major infrastructure projects during the NEC meeting, including the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Trans-Saharan Highway, and full counterpart financing for the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Railway and Ibadan-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano Standard-Gauge Railway. These projects are set to boost transportation connectivity and economic development across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
