The Edo State commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Callys Alumona, announced that the agency had arrested 220 suspects for drug-related offenses between February and June 2024.
During this period, 14 cannabis farms, measuring a total of 18.5 hectares and containing approximately 46,251.433 kg of cannabis, were destroyed. Of the arrested suspects, 148 were males and 72 were females. Alumona shared these details during the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Alumona also mentioned that four drug barons had been on the agency’s watch list, with two already arrested and prosecuted while the other two are still being tracked. The NDLEA seized a total of 1,676,994 kilograms of hard drugs, including 3,558 bottles of codeine-based syrup amounting to 3,558 liters, within the same timeframe. abilitation and counseling program, 154 suspected drug addicts received counseling, with eight of them being treated as indoor clients.
