A minor fire outbreak occurred at a section of the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, on Wednesday morning. Workers were evacuated amidst panic, but the fire, affecting only part of the building, was quickly contained. No injuries were reported, and operations at the refinery continued as usual, according to Anthony Chiejina, spokesman of Dangote Group.

In reaction to the incident, the Arewa Think Tank (ATTK) claimed that the fire was the work of those opposed to the refinery’s success and aimed to undermine Aliko Dangote and President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to improve Nigeria’s socioeconomic conditions. The group labeled these saboteurs as enemies of Nigeria.

Similarly, Comrade Abdulhakeem Alawuje, President of the Yoruba Welfare Group, expressed shock, suggesting the incident might not be coincidental. He highlighted that it occurred shortly after the refinery’s management raised concerns about potential opposition from International Oil Companies.
