The Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Governance Board has approved the reappointment of Ms. Damilola Ogunbiyi for a second term of five years as Chief Executive Officer. Under her leadership, SEforALL has made significant strides in enabling just, equitable, and sustainable energy transitions, particularly in developing regions.
During her initial term, which began in 2020, Ogunbiyi spearheaded an ambitious expansion of SEforALL’s global influence and country support, establishing working relationships with over 200 partners and supporting over 90 countries globally. SEforALL focuses on driving action towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 – access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all by 2030 – in alignment with the Paris Agreement on climate.
Under Ogunbiyi’s leadership, SEforALL prioritized evidence-based support for in-country capacity building, resulting in $1.3 trillion in commitments through Energy Compacts, aimed at supporting SDG7 achievement. Notably, 129 million people gained access to electricity, and 22 million gained access to clean cooking through Energy Compact commitments.
Moreover, SEforALL raised $40 million to support new mini-grids and high-capacity standalone solar systems in several countries, benefiting Sierra Leone, Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Benin, and Nigeria. Additionally, 330 young women from the Global South were trained in the sustainable energy sector.
Ogunbiyi expressed her commitment to ending energy poverty and accelerating a just and equitable energy transition. President Bola Tinubu lauded her reappointment, emphasizing its significance not only for Nigeria but also for the world.
