LBS, Stanbic IBTC Advocate Corporate Sustainability

Lagos Business School (LBS) and Stanbic IBTC Holdings emphasized the need for businesses to integrate environmental sustainability into their corporate strategies. This message was conveyed during the presentation of a case study titled ‘Beyond the Buzzwords: Concrete Sustainability Measures in Corporate Strategy’ at LBS’s campus in Lagos by LBS Dean Professor Chris Ogbechie and Segun Jones, Lead of the LBS Management Hub.

Professor Ogbechie emphasized sustainability as integral to the survival of corporate entities today, stating that climate change poses significant risks, including food crises in Nigeria. He highlighted the importance of preserving the environment for future generations. Also, he stressed that businesses must prioritize sustainability alongside financial targets.

Demola Sogunle, CEO of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, highlighted the company’s commitment to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) benchmarks. He outlined the company’s sustainability initiatives, including planting nearly 44,000 trees over three years with plans to reach 100,000 by 2025.

Sogunle linked the company’s success directly to community welfare and sustainability efforts, underlining their strategic importance in achieving corporate goals amidst Nigeria’s environmental challenges.
