Airtel Telesonic, the wholesale division of Airtel Africa, has achieved a significant milestone by activating the 2Africa Submarine Cable System. This development marks a major enhancement in connectivity across the African continent, particularly linking Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa in its initial phase.
The 2Africa Cable System, one of the largest subsea projects globally, is designed to interconnect Africa, Europe, and Asia, promising faster and more reliable internet services to support digital transformation throughout Africa.
Airtel Telesonic collaborated with Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), a leader in optical submarine networks worldwide, to achieve this milestone. ASN provided cutting-edge SLTE (Submarine Line Terminal Equipment) technology and turn-key solutions.
P D Sarma, CEO of Airtel Telesonic, expressed excitement about this achievement, emphasizing its role in bridging the digital divide in Africa. Paul Gabla, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at ASN, also underscored their commitment to supporting Airtel with innovative SLTE solutions on the 2Africa Cable System.
In addition to this milestone, Airtel Africa has partnered with Network International, a leading digital commerce enabler across the Middle East and Africa (MEA), to serve as its payment processor. This collaboration is expected to bolster Airtel’s capabilities in delivering cutting-edge mobile services across the continent and beyond.
