In an effort to enhance corporate transparency and sustainability in Nigeria, Rubicola Consulting has partnered with NGX Regulation Limited and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to host a comprehensive workshop on Sustainability, Climate Risk Disclosures, and reporting. Scheduled for June 25, 2024, at Four Points by Sheraton in Victoria Island, this full-day event targets senior business leaders including CEOs, CFOs, CSOs, CROs, and directors.
The workshop aligns with Nigeria’s rapid adoption of the IFRS S1 and S2 Standards, which became effective from January 1, 2024.
The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria emphasized the importance of these standards in its Roadmap Report released on March 22, 2024. The report highlights the need for providing investors with non-financial information related to social, environmental, and governance (ESG) issues, complementing traditional financial metrics and boosting investor confidence. Nigeria’s swift adoption of these global benchmarks is part of the broader strategy by the Tinubu administration to attract foreign direct investment and foster economic growth.
Prominent speakers at the workshop include Olufemi Shobanjo, CEO of NGX Regulation Ltd; Titi Oshodi, Special Advisor on Climate Change and Circular Economy to the Governor of Lagos State; and Tom Isibor, Market Head of ACCA Nigeria. Joseph Owolabi, founder of Rubicola Consulting and the event organizer, noted that capacity building is crucial for the successful implementation of these standards, as highlighted in the FRC’s Adoption Readiness Working Group (ARWG) Roadmap Report.
