President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe as the interim Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC). This appointment is pending confirmation by the NCCC Supervisory Council.
The announcement, made by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, aligns with the President’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s green industrial vision through climate finance initiatives.
Dr. Maduekwe, who brings over 15 years of experience in climate policy and project implementation, has also been named Co-Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Committee on the National Carbon Market Activation Plan (NCMAP). Alongside her, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Shelleng has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance and Stakeholder Engagement. Shelleng will manage climate finance and stakeholder relations within the NCCC Secretariat, reinforcing the administration’s focus on effective climate finance management.
Additionally, Mr. Olamide Fagbuji has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology and Operations. His role will include overseeing the digitalization of procurement processes and optimizing cross-departmental procedures within the NCCC Secretariat.
