The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is expected to present a new proposal for a minimum wage increase at a meeting of the federal government’s Tripartite Committee on Tuesday in Abuja. This renewed push comes after the NLC previously adjusted its demand down to N497,000 from an initial N615,000. The government’s current offer stands at N57,000.

While details of the NLC’s revised proposal remain undisclosed, both the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are expected to put forth fresh ideas to reach a swift compromise.

The news report also highlights concerns raised by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) regarding media regulation and journalist welfare. The NUJ is proposing the establishment of a National Ombudsman for the media to address issues like poor remuneration and unprofessional practices within the online media space. They have also suggested a Bill of Rights to safeguard the rights and interests of working journalists.
