Fiat’s owner, Stellantis, is set to unveil a hybrid version of its popular 500e electric car. Production of this new model will take place at the Mirafiori plant in Italy, a move designed to revitalize domestic output.

The announcement is expected during a meeting between Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares and union representatives. Unions have been advocating for a new high-volume, affordable model to increase production at Mirafiori.

The hybrid 500e is part of a larger agreement between Stellantis and the Italian government to boost car manufacturing in the country. The goal is to reach one million vehicles produced annually by the end of the decade, up from around 750,000 in 2023.

Production of the new hybrid is expected to begin in late 2025, with Stellantis aiming for a total annual output of 200,000 500s in Mirafiori.
