The deployment of dispensing pumps for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Nigeria has experienced a remarkable surge of 233 percent in the past six months since November last year.
Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, the Coordinator and Chief Executive of the Presidential Initiative on CNG (Pi-CNG), revealed this during a press briefing while touring the Mikano International CNG-based vehicle assembly plant in Ogun State. Mikano, in support of the widespread adoption of CNG, has announced plans to deploy 18 CNG dispensing points across the country.
Oluwagbemi highlighted the significant growth in CNG infrastructure, stating that Nigeria now has over 60 dispensing pumps compared to less than 18 pumps in November last year. He further noted that there are over 120 pending applications awaiting approval for installation of CNG dispensers, demonstrating the increasing interest in CNG commercialization.
The purpose of the tour was to assess the manufacturing capacity of partners like Mikano in supporting Nigeria’s CNG revolution, spearheaded by the Presidential Initiative on CNG. Oluwagbemi emphasized the dual benefits of using CNG, not only for transportation but also for powering industrialization, citing examples of factories running on gas 24/7.
