In a collaborative effort, tech giants Microsoft and OpenAI have announced the creation of a $2 million Societal Resilience Fund aimed at addressing AI misinformation and enhancing global AI literacy. This fund will particularly focus on educating voters and vulnerable communities as numerous countries prepare for elections in 2024.
The joint statement from Microsoft and OpenAI emphasizes the importance of providing tools and reliable information to navigate the increasingly complex digital landscape, especially during democratic elections involving two billion people worldwide.
Grants from the fund will support organizations like Older Adults Technology Services from AARP (OATS), the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), and Partnership on AI (PAI) to promote AI education and understanding.
This partnership aims to engage with diverse global civil society organizations and academics to raise public awareness and build societal resilience against deceptive AI practices.
