International charity organization Sightsavers, in collaboration with Access Holdings, Unilever, UK Aid, and UNICEF, has initiated the Sabi-Woman project to support females with disabilities in Nigeria.
Targeting adolescent girls aged 13–17 years and young women aged 18–24 years, the project aims to enhance economic productivity and labor force participation among young women with disabilities, preparing them for work post-schooling or outside formal education.
Rasak Adekoya, the Technical Advisor on Economic Empowerment at Sightsavers, announced the project’s launch, which will benefit 2,800 females with disabilities in Lagos and Kano. The initiative includes advocating for and strengthening financial inclusion for persons with disabilities, with a focus on ensuring clear financial inclusion guidelines from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to guide banks in making financial programs accessible to persons with disabilities.
James David Lalu, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, commended Access Holdings for providing an enabling environment for persons with disabilities.
