The Lagos State government has uncovered a network of makeshift apartments beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, where tenants reportedly paid N250,000 per annum for a room. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed that 86 partitioned rooms, ranging from 10×10 to 12×10 in size, were discovered under the bridge.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Wahab shared videos showing the eviction and dismantling of structures under the bridge. He stated that the enforcement team of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources removed the illegal rooms and a container used for various illegal activities.
Additionally, 18 individuals squatting illegally under the bridge were arrested by officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI). Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, confirmed the removal of squatters, highlighting that 23 individuals were arrested during the eviction process. He emphasized that the law would be enforced to address such environmental infractions and unlawful settlements.
