The suspension of Dana Air’s operations following a runway incident on its Abuja-Lagos flight has stirred controversy in the aviation industry. Stakeholders criticized the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development for allegedly overstepping its authority by recommending the airline’s suspension, which they viewed as interference in regulatory functions.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced Dana Air’s suspension shortly after the Ministry of Aviation issued a public statement directing the regulatory authority to take action against the airline. This move prompted concerns about undue influence on regulatory processes.
In response to the suspension, Dana Air stated that it had begun refunding passengers with pending bookings and assured customers of its commitment to cooperate fully with aviation authorities to resolve the issues leading to the suspension of its operating license.
