The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has issued a caution to advertising agencies regarding the presentation of creative and advertising materials that pose security threats to the country.
Speaking at the Advertising Stakeholders Panel Forum in Lagos, the Director General of ARCON, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, emphasized the importance of vetting and approval for such materials to ensure compliance with ethical standards.
Dr. Fadolapo highlighted concerns about the proliferation of indecent, unwholesome, untrue, unsubstantiated, and misleading advertisements submitted to the council for approval. He revealed that approximately 30 adverts were recently declined approval due to failure to meet ARCON’s ethical standards.
As the gatekeeper of advertisements, Dr. Fadolapo urged strict adherence to regulatory codes and effective enforcement measures to uphold ethical standards across both traditional and digital media platforms.
