Somalia has announced that Turkey will begin oil drilling operations along the country’s extensive coastline starting next year, as confirmed by Mohamed Hashi Abdi ‘Arabey’, Director General of the Somali Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. This development follows a recent assertion by a Turkish official regarding plans for deep-sea oil exploration by 2025.

The agreement between Somalia and Turkey, signed in early March, aims to enhance cooperation in the exploration and exploitation of petroleum resources. According to Abdi, seismic works and drilling will commence in coastal areas facing Barawe and Hobbio districts, aligning with Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar’s statement.

Bayraktar emphasized that the agreement will benefit the Somali government and people, highlighting Turkey’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s economic development.
