Nigeria’s flag carrier, Air Peace, has refuted claims that it abandoned passengers at Gatwick Airport, London, and closed its counter before closing time due to overbooking on April 8, 2024. Reacting to a social media video where these allegations were made, the airline labeled them as false and an attempt to tarnish its reputation.

Air Peace clarified that the airport operates on slot timings allocated to each airline, and check-in operations are based on these slots. The airline vacated its counter at 09:55 AM, in line with its slot allocation, as check-in ends at 09:00 AM according to its terms and conditions.

To prevent missed flights, Air Peace sends multiple reminders to passengers before departure. The flight scheduled for 11:10 AM adhered to this time, and the airline emphasized that there was no overbooking. Both UK and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authorities can verify the airline’s manifest, with some seats remaining unoccupied at departure, confirming no overbooking occurred.
