Vietnam’s parliament is scheduled to convene on Thursday to discuss unspecified “personnel issues,” as indicated in a letter sent to legislators, triggering speculation about a potential reshuffling of the country’s top leadership. Among the rumored personnel matters is the possible resignation of President Vo Van Thuong, according to Vietnamese officials and diplomats.

While the parliament has confirmed the meeting, Vietnam’s foreign affairs ministry and the parliament’s press offices have yet to respond to requests for comment. The letter from the general secretary of the national assembly, Bui Van Cuong, to parliament members states that the extraordinary session will address personnel issues, but the specific decisions to be made remain unclear.

The special session follows the postponement of a state visit to Vietnam by the Dutch royal family, attributed to “domestic circumstances.” The timing of the parliamentary meeting and the lack of detailed information have fueled speculation about potential changes in Vietnam’s leadership, prompting close attention to developments in the coming days.
