The Federal Government has provided clarity regarding the postponement of the launch of the student loan scheme. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), emphasized that the delay is temporary, lasting only a few weeks, and not indefinite. Echono made this clarification during a courtesy visit by Kwara state Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in Abuja.

Echono assured Nigerian students of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the project and explained that the delay is a result of observations raised from the National Assembly. The postponement aims to address these concerns to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme and guarantee its quality standards.

Despite the delay, Echono highlighted that preparations for the launch are ongoing, and the President has arrangements in place for its eventual implementation. He also revealed that approximately 140,000 students are expected to benefit from the scheme in its inaugural year. Once the scheme is officially launched, students who have secured their admissions can apply for the loan to support their tertiary education endeavors.
