Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign affairs chief, addressed the United Nations Security Council, condemning Israel’s use of starvation as a tool of war in Gaza. He emphasized that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a result of deliberate actions, with vital supply routes being blocked off. Borrell stressed that this crisis, affecting millions, is entirely man-made and not a result of natural disasters like floods or earthquakes.
Borrell asserted that urgent action is needed to address the dire situation in Gaza, urging Israeli authorities to allow unhindered humanitarian access. The EU is stepping up its humanitarian aid efforts in response to the escalating crisis. Meanwhile, the ongoing conflict has displaced a significant portion of Gaza’s population, with a quarter facing starvation due to Israeli-imposed restrictions and sieges.
The violence in Gaza persists, with recent Israeli strikes causing further casualties and destruction. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported 88 fatalities and 135 injuries in the past 24 hours alone. Since the beginning of Israel’s military offensive in October, the death toll has risen sharply, reaching 31,272 Palestinians killed and 73,024 injured. The situation remains dire as Israel continues to seal off Gaza, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and leaving its residents in a state of starvation.
